Art supplies sale
For the first time ever the Friends of Plumb Library is holding a craft supplies sale.
Items for sale will include fabric, yarn, notions, patterns, crafting magazines, needles and hooks and hoops, scrapbooking materials and more.
The sale will take place on Friday, Aug. 22 from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and on Saturday, Aug. 23 from 10 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. in the Plumb Library’s Downstairs Program Room.
Payment will be accepted by cash or check, with all proceeds set to benefit the Friends of Plumb Library in their mission to bring programs, events and activities for all ages to the library.
Donations of items for the sale can be dropped off at the library during open hours through Saturday, Aug. 16 at 2 p.m.

Marion Concert Band
Take a splash with the Marion Concert Band as its next Friday evening concert explores the sea.
The program includes songs such as “Hands Across the Sea” and “Under the Sea” from “The Little Mermaid.”
The concert will begin at 7 p.m. at the Robert Broomhead Bandstand at Island Wharf. The concert is free and open to the public. For more information and up-to-date announcements, visit the Marion Town Band Facebook page.
Saturday, Aug. 23
Dog Walk-A-Thon
On Saturday, Aug. 23 the annual Dog Walk-A-Thon is returning to Mattapoisett. The walk begins at Center School and will take place from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m.
Participants have the option to walk either a half-mile route or a mile-route, both of which are marked around the village.
Participants will also receive a 2025 Walk A Thon T-shirt and there will be water stations set up along the route.
No pre-registration is required to participate, with registration taking place the morning of the walk.
The event costs $20 per participant, with all proceeds going to the building of a future dog park in Mattapoisett. Currently, cash and check are the only forms of payment accepted.
New England Rodeo
The New England Rodeo is returning on Saturday, Aug. 23. Events will include a youth rodeo, barrel racers and the professional rodeo. There will also be a mechanical bull for guests to ride and a rodeo clown.
The rodeo will begin at 5 p.m. at the Rochester Fairgrounds at 65 Pine Street. Tickets are for sale at the gate and are cash only.
