‘Nobody’s more passionate’: Bulldogs show spirit at pep rally
MATTAPOISETT — To truly be loud “you must be on your feet,” said former Old Rochester Regional High School Athletic Director Bill Tilden at the school’s homecoming pep rally on Friday, Oct. 20.
Tilden led the high school in a Bulldog chant one final time in a moment that he said he will “never forget.”
But this was also a moment that many current Old Rochester Regional High School students will also remember forever as kids from each class presented skits that they had been working on for weeks.
In each skit, Old Rochester students filled with school pride overcame their villainous counterparts from Somerset-Berkley Highschool who were often depicted “kidnapping” the school’s mascot, a grey bulldog.
The purpose of the pep rally was to drum up Bulldog pride ahead of a homecoming football game against Somerset-Berkley High School that would take place later that day.
The Class of 2027 put on a skit inspired by “The Lorax,” the Class of 2026 had a “Moana” inspired skit, the Class of 2025 staged a “High School Musical” skit, and the class of 2024 were more than kenough and put on a skit inspired by the “Barbie” movie.
Every act was met with cheers from fellow students, faculty, staff and parents.
School spirit was also on full display throughout the week as students dressed up in outfits inspired by various themes like pajama day, western day, movie day and USA day. Classes also decorated the hallways to show their Bulldog pride.
At the pep rally, the classes were ranked by how well they showed their spirit throughout the week. The Class of 2027 and 2025 tied for third, the Class of 2026 came in second, and the senior Class of 2024 came in first.
Near-deafening cheers followed.
“Now, we’ve been loud in here before but we have never lifted the roof off this place,” said Tilden. “But we need Somerset-Berkley to hear us, to know the crowd that is coming … there is not any school ever that wants to walk in and face the dog pound. Nobody’s more loud, nobody’s more passionate, and you guys are a bunch of rabid dogs.”
