Meet, greet and eat with capybaras

MATTAPOISETT — Ready to meet the world’s largest rodent? Pine Meadow Alpacas has introduced private tours to meet their two new capybaras.

“These two boys are very excited to meet everybody,” said Lauren Paine, education coordinator.

On private tours, capybaras will not be the only animal to meet. Pine Meadows also has Geoffrey’s cats, wallabies, porcupines and tortoises as well as classic farm animals that you can feed, pet and learn about.

Paine reports that the two capybaras are settling in well on the farm, becoming more curious and engaging everyday. Her favorite thing about having the capybaras around is that they can be so friendly.

Private tours are a great educational opportunity where guests can learn about the animals, their natural habitats and conservation. Paine wants to educate guests on how to keep these animals around as long as possible with the least impact on their environments.

“We hope that [guests] definitely learn about animals and hope that they want to learn more and feel inspired to hopefully help with conservation,” Paine said.

Max tour size is 8 guests and all participants must be 8-years-old or above.

Tours are $100 for up to 4 guests. It is $25 for each additional guest. Tours for September are full, but check here for more tours coming in October.

“We hope that people enjoy the capybaras and definitely want to learn more about these guys.” Paine continued, “They're very cool and all their other friends that we have with them.
