Annual Cranberry Brawl hits it out of the park

Aug 2, 2023

ROCHESTER — Young baseball players were in full swing at Rochester’s Gifford and Dexter Fields for the Old Rochester Youth Baseball League’s annual Cranberry Brawl tournament on July 29 and 30.

The tournament brought together players from across southern New England, including Rhode Island and Connecticut, to compete in friendly games of baseball to finish out the summer season.

This year’s tournament “has been so great, so successful,” said Old Rochester Youth Baseball League President Mike Duarte. “What’s nice about our wonderful towns is that we’re a destination … it’s been incredibly successful, everyone’s showing up.”

A team from Tiverton, Rhode Island took the 9U championship with Middleboro taking the 9U runner-up spot. New Bedford’s South End Youth Athletic Association took the 11U championship and Raynham took the 11U runner-up spot.

While the 9U and 11U teams from the Tri-Town couldn’t replicate their wins from the 2022 tournament, the 11U Bulldogs made it all the way to the semi-finals and “fell just short” against the eventual 11U champions, wrote the Old Rochester Youth Baseball League in a Facebook post.
