Artistic skills to bloom at Marion Art Center

MARION — The Marion Art Center will be filled with cookie decorating, watercolor art, and flower pressing during this year’s Art in Bloom series from Thursday, June 13 to Saturday, June 15.

The Marion Art Center will display floral arrangements inspired by artwork in its current exhibition. According to the Marion Art Center, anyone is allowed to create and submit an arrangement. 

Those interested in creating a floral arrangement must select their artwork by Wednesday, June 12. Arrangements will be featured at a free, public gallery reception on Thursday, June 13 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Marion Art Center.

The center will also offer three workshops to accompany the exhibition. 

In a flower-inspired cookie class on Saturday, June 15 from 2 p.m. to 3 p.m., participants will decorate freshly baked sugar cookies under the instruction of Samantha Asker of Disco Butter Cookies. 

Participants will take home up to eight cookies and receive a recipe kit. The event costs $40 for Marion Art Center members and is $50 for non-members.

On Friday, June 14, watercolor artist Peggy Call-Conley will instruct a painting workshop for adults and teens to paint from a floral arrangement still life between 1 p.m. and 4 p.m. The workshop costs $50 for Marion Art Center members and $60 for non-members. 

A flower pressing workshop will be held at the center on Saturday, June 15, where students will learn the basics of flower pressing. This workshop costs $40 for Marion Art Center members and $50 for non-members.
