Barbara L. (Lawn) Mansfield, 75

Oct 22, 2020

Barbara L. (Lawn) Mansfield, 75, of Mattapoisett passed away suddenly Oct. 19, 2020 at St. Luke's Hospital after a brief illness.

She was the wife of William E. “Bill” Mansfield, with whom she shared 27 years of marriage.

Barbara grew up in Philadelphia where she graduated from Westtown prep school. She graduated from Penn State with a degree in Education. Subsequently, she became a personnel director for the John Wanamaker corporation in Philadelphia. When Wanamaker had financial problems, she moved to Connecticut and became a personnel director for the Caldor Corporation. When the engineering company that Bill worked for was sold, Bill moved back to Mattapoisett and rented his condo to Barbara. He often jokes that she never paid her rent on time so he got to know her by chasing her around as she traveled frequently.

Barbara loved boating and was a great first mate on their trawler yacht and never missed pulling in the mooring line. She loved Mattapoisett, and particularly Ned’s Point. She was a great lover of animals, especially the deer that frequent their yard. Her greatest joy was sitting in a chair with her cat on her lap looking out over Mattapoisett harbor.

Barbara is survived by her husband Bill and step children Carol Mansfield of Mattapoisett and Jay Mansfield of Bourne.
Her private Funeral Service was held in the Saunders-Dwyer Mattapoisett Home for Funerals, 50 County Road. Burial followed in Riverside Cemetery. For online guestbook, visit saundersdwyer.com.
