Bouncy castles and barbeques at Summer Party
MARION — The bottom of Main Street in Marion had it all on Saturday, July 29: A hot grill, a bouncy castle, a bake sale and more.
Volunteers and parishioners with the Marion Congregational Church braved the heat to put on their annual Summer Party.
This year’s event was scaled down from previous iterations, said Reverend Eric Osterday, who joined the Marion Congregational Church this month. He added that the goal is to bring the event back up to full form in the coming years.
“I’m new to town, so this is new to me, but I hear this [event] has such a rich history,” said Osterday, who manned the event’s food tent with church volunteers.
In the past, the Summer Party included craft vendors and a community yard sale.
This year, said one church volunteer, the 50/50 raffle and white elephant table was the main draw.
“All of our goods are donated and the proceeds go to the church and to our thrift store,” said Osterday. “This has been exciting to jump into.”
For two-year-old Somer Silvia and brother Sonny Silvia the real draw of the summer fair was the bouncy house set up near the church’s thrift store, Penny Pincher’s Exchange.
“[They] wanted to go to the bounce house,” said the siblings’ mother Katie Silvia, joking that she wants them to get “tired out.”
