Brothers accused of vandalizing seasonal homes in Mattapoisett

Mattapoisett Police announced on Monday that three brothers suspected of breaking into at least 35 unoccupied homes have been captured and arraigned.

Police said Glen, Alex and Kevin Bowman stole copper pipes and outdoor shower heads. They also broke into several sheds and stole tools and boat motors.

The men were apprehended on Sunday evening after Sgt. Jason King and Officer Scott Leblanc saw two men dropped off in the Crescent Beach area. The car left the area, returning a short time later to pick up the men.

As the car left Angelica Avenue, police stopped it and reportedly found copper pipes and shower heads in plain view in the rear passenger seat.

Police arrested the three men: Glen, 28, Alex, 40 and Kevin Bowman, 33. Originally from Mattapoisett, the brothers now live in New Bedford.

Chief Mary Lyons said several items stolen from local homes were found in New Bedford pawn shops.

They are charged with breaking and entering with intent to commit a felony, receiving stolen property worth more than $250, malicious destruction of property exceeding $250, larceny from a building and use of a motor vehicle in the commission of a felony. They were arraigned on Monday, January 13.

Many of the houses the Bowmans targeted are seasonal homes that are currently unoccupied, said police. In addition to the homes located in Crescent Beach, police reported that the men also broke into sheds on Pico Beach Road and Prospect Road and stole property in the Hollywoods Road area.

The investigation is ongoing and police encourage homeowners in beach communities to check their property and report to the police if they have been a victim of a theft.

Any questions can be directed to Detective Craig Leblanc, Sgt. Jason King or Officer Scott Leblanc.
