Burr Brothers Boats, a 66-year-old family run boat business in Marion, and Nauset Marine, a 52-year-old family run boat business based in Orleans frequently find each other side-by-side at boat shows.

Carleton and Johnny Burr founded the company that bears their name in 1947 and today members of the family still run the business. Founded in 1961, Nauset Marine has also been owned by the same family since opening.

So it seemed natural to partner up in doing business. This summer, Nauset has established an across-the-bridge beachhead at Burr Brothers Front Street facility.

“We have a long history with Nauset Marine,” said Burr Brothers Yard Superintendent Chris Bryant. “Both are family-owned companies, and whenever we go to boat shows we team up together.”

The move also gives Nauset Marine, one of the world’s largest independent Boston Whaler dealers, a foothold in the South Coast market.

In affiliation with Nauset Marine, Burr Brothers is now offering Boston Whaler boats for sale at its location on 309 Front St.

“Nauset realized that people from the area may not want to cross the [Cape Cod Canal] bridges in the summer,” Bryant said.

Selling the boats fit well for Burr Brothers, which uses about six or seven company-owned Boston Whalers in the harbor for business.

“For us it’s a match,” Bryant said.
