Candidate profile: Will Saltonstall

May 7, 2019

Will Saltonstall works professionally as an architect and wanted to apply his planning and technical skills to town projects. He is currently chair of the Planning Board.

He emphasizes the importance of evaluating a project in the context of the town bylaws.

He sees the board continuing to advance the Master Plan around issues of infrastructure, coastal resiliency, transportation and open space use. He is particularly interested in the financial and planning aspects of town infrastructure.

Saltonstall also plans to continue bylaw codification.

The architect said it is important for the Planning Board to “represent the interest of citizens. They don’t have anyone looking out for them,” when it comes to developers coming into town.

He emphasizes that in terms of economic development he doesn’t want a lot of big box stores on Route 6, but would like to encourage appropriate size community development.

Saltonstall hopes to be chair again, and to continue to improve communication between boards, particularly the Zoning Board of Appeals, Conservation Board and Board of Health.
