Mattapoisett police announced Wednesday that several cars were broken into and one was stolen early on Tuesday in the Crescent Beach area.

Officers were alerted to the theft and later located the vehicle on North Street. An attempt to pull the car over led to a short pursuit that ended without stopping the suspects. Police later found the car abandoned a short distance from where it was stolen.

Police reportedly checked the area and found that several cars had been rummaged through in the area of Angelica Avenue and Prospect Road.

Mattapoisett police urge residents to remove any valuables from their cars and to keep them locked. Anyone in the Crescent Beach area with surveillance cameras is asked to review their footage to see if they have any helpful tips for police.
