Car, foot chase leads to motorcycle theft arrest in Mattapoisett
MATTAPOISETT — Mattapoisett police arrested two suspects after a car and foot chase on Oct. 4.
At 9:48 p.m., Sgt. Robert Dumas learned that the Wareham Police Department was in search of a U-Haul truck possibly involved in the theft of a motorcycle. Dumas later identified the truck exiting I-195 in Mattapoisett.
A pursuit, assisted by officers Dennis Tavares and Kristen Borges, began after the driver failed to pull over for Dumas.
The chase continued on Route 6 toward Fairhaven, where a Fairhaven officer was able to stop the truck by deflating its tires with stop sticks.
Once the vehicle stopped both the operator, Rory A. Santos-Barrows Jr., 22, of East Freetown, and the passenger, Donnie Moniz, 18, of New Bedford, fled on foot and were placed into custody after a short foot pursuit.
Santos-Barrows was charged with receiving stolen property, unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle, failing to stop for police, a marked lanes violation, negligent operation of a motor vehicle and speeding.
Both suspects were transported to Wareham District Court on Oct. 5 to be arraigned on the above charges.
