Cases stay low in Tri-Town despite state increase

Oct 9, 2020

As covid case numbers rise outside the Tri-Town, Marion, Mattapoisett and Rochester have all remained in the gray zone.

Municipalities are categorized by the state into colors depending on covid incidence rates, with gray being the lowest rates and red being the highest.

In Marion, no cases were reported in the two weeks leading up to Oct. 7., as the town’s incidence rate lowered while many other South Coast towns saw a rise in cases. Additionally, Marion has the highest rate of testing in the Tri-Town, with over 500 tests in the two weeks leading up to Oct. 7.

In Mattapoisett, positive tests rose to four in the two weeks before Oct. 7. But even though data from the state show cases on the rise, the town remained in the gray zone. The town tested around 300 people in the two week period.

Rochester holds the highest incidence rate in the Tri-Town, but still remained under the gray zone threshold of under five cases over a two week period. With a total of 9 positive tests leading into Oct. 7, the town has tested the fewest people of the tree towns, with 271 tests in the weeks leading up to Oct. 7.
