Center School second graders cook!
Pumpkin bread was on the menu Monday morning as Center School second graders took over the cafeteria for a cooking demonstration.
"If you get eggshells in there, don't worry," said teacher Maria Tomon. "That means good luck to the person who gets that bite."
The kids got to crack eggs and whip batter while also learning a little math and science.
"I thought this would be great community building," said Tomon.
She usually makes the pumpkin bread with her own class, but with two new second grade teachers at the school this year, she thought it would be a fun group activity.
Kids were divided into groups around cafeteria tables and helped measure and mix the ingredients.
The activity also introduces kids to measurements and prepares them for learning fractions later in the year.
"It aligns with the Common Core," Tomon said.
Once baked, the bread will be sent home with each child.
