Collyer's Frame Design sold to Crowell's Fine Art and Framing

Collyer's Frame Design was sold to Crowell's Fine Art and Framing of New Bedford in early July. Owner Jackie Collyer announced the sale in a July 15 press release.

Collyer's has been a part of the Ropewalk shops on Route 6 for five years and was founded in 2006 on Barstow Street. Collyer's provided custom framing, museum-quality restoration and art consultation, services that will continue under the Crowell's banner.

"Jackie approached the owner of the Ropewalk and then I was approached about purchasing Collyer's," said Crowell's owner Kate Levin. "Me and Jackie have similar philosophies towards customer service."

Crowell's will absorb the Collyer's location but has been operating the store as Crowell's since July 8.

"The cosmetic changes are in progress," Levin said, adding that Collyer's employee will stay onboard. "She's still here and working the same shift, which I think will be great for the customers who are used to her."

"We are excited to welcome Crowell's to Mattapoisett, knowing we have passed the keys over to someone who will uphold our standards of framing, and take great care of our clients," said Collyer.

"The expansion is a bit sooner than I anticipated expanding," said Levin. "But I love Mattapoisett and I think there are plenty of people who might go west or to the Cape instead of coming to New Bedford to Crowell's."

As to whether she will be expanding again anytime soon, Levin remarked that with both locations and her seasonal gift shop at the New Bedford terminal, she has more than enough work for now.

"I'm feeling content at the moment," said Levin.
