When Rob Daener’s co-workers decided to host a fundraiser to help him raise money for a standing wheelchair, they hoped to raise $10,000.

So far they’ve collected three times that amount.

The fundraiser was on Friday, but according to Melody Pacheco, who helped organize the event, the donations haven’t stopped coming.

“The money is still coming in,” she said. “We’ve had calls [Monday] morning, we have mailings that still haven’t reached us. We have not closed off donations at all.”

Daener said he couldn’t believe the donations he has received and is extremely grateful.

“I’m very taken aback by it. I’m not sure what I did to deserve it,” he said. “I’m lost for words.”

Pecheco added that nobody was expecting to raise so much money, but that it shows the impact Daener’s story has on people.

“It just shows the wonderful support we have from the community,” she said. “We can’t thank everyone enough. It was overwhelming…It was a wonderful, wonderful night.”

And Daener couldn’t agree more.

“It well exceeded my expectations,” he said. “It was crazy. I was completely overwhelmed.”

The Knights of Columbus building was packed with people, leaving some unable to find parking in the lot. Daener said the turnout was an example of the great people in the area.

“I am very fortunate to be in the position where I work and live,” he said. “It shows you there are a lot of great people out there.”
