Coronavirus changes, doesn’t stop, birthday celebrations

Apr 18, 2020

It’s a tough time to have a party that extends beyond just immediate family, but birthdays don’t stop, even in a pandemic, which has led to some creative solutions.

The most popular seems to be a birthday parade, where friends, relatives, and sometimes even strangers who heard about the parade on social media, drive by someone’s house, or another previously designated location with smiles, waves and colorfully decorated cars.

With a birthday on St. Patrick’s Day, Mason in Rochester was likely one of the first to have a parade in his honor. Other parades included celebrations for twins Logan and Caitlyn King and mother-daugher birthday twins Gloria Perperas and her mother, Ressy in Mattapoisett.

In Marion, four year old Beckham Harvey decided that he wanted a different present for his birthday on Wednesday. He stood on the corner of Bullivant Farm Road and Point Road with a brightly decorated sign that said “Honk, It’s my birthday!” His mother Vanessa reported that the sign worked and he got a lot of attention from passing drivers.

Happy belated birthday to all the creative Tri-Town residents who have celebrated!
