Covid case drop continues

Feb 6, 2021

New covid cases continue to fall in all three towns, following a spike over the Christmas and New Years holidays.

While new cases in Marion are down from a Jan. 17 peak of 46 to 17 in state data released on Feb. 4, Sippican Healthcare Center reported three new deaths, bringing the total at the long-term healthcare facility to 26.

In Mattapoisett, new cases dropped to the lowest they’ve been since mid-November, recording nine cases this week.

Rochester saw a double-digit drop in new cases, from 33 last week to 19 in this week’s data. This is the lowest new cases have been in Rochester since state data released on Christmas eve, when the town recorded 22 new cases.

There are five people related to the Old Rochester Regional School District currently in isolation due to positive cases according to its covid dashboard. Another 30 people related to the district are in quarantine. One of the positive cases was found in center school, two in the Old Rochester Regional High School, and one each in the Junior High and Rochester Memorial School.
