Cracking the case: Young ghost hunters solve a mystery
ROCHESTER — Plumb Library turned into a haunted hotel on Saturday, July 22 thanks to the mobile mystery game company Mysteries on the Move.
Young ghost hunters cracked codes and solved puzzles to discover the truth behind the haunting of L’Hotel Henri.
Pam Hatch created Mysteries on the Move with help from Ryan Racette to bring an escape room experience directly to players.
“We came up with the idea of bringing escape rooms to the places so kids can get the same experience without having to go somewhere,” said Racette.
Some ghost hunters began their search for clues in the library where they found a list of numbers. The young detectives were tasked with finding the corresponding page, line and word in a book to create a sentence.
Experienced mystery solver Leah Carr, 10, used context clues to choose what book to use to crack the code. Carr said that she picked up the survival guide to search through due to the clue on the table referencing the ability to “survive anything anywhere.”
“You have to use all of your knowledge,” said Carr.
According to Racette, Mysteries on the Move games encourage players to use a wide range of skills to solve puzzles.
“A lot of it is cognitive thinking,” said Racette. “It is a lot of memorization, reasoning and math.”
