Crash on Route 6 in Mattapoisett leaves one injured
MATTAPOISETT — A two-car crash on Route 6 in Mattapoisett left one driver injured and temporarily redirected traffic on the morning of Friday, Aug. 30.
A Honda minivan and a Chevrolet sedan collided by the Gulf gas station on Route 6 shortly after 10 a.m.
The Chevrolet’s driver, Mattapoisett resident Angila Walker, said she had just gotten gas and was turning left onto Route 6 when she collided with a Honda minivan traveling east that was obscured by a Staples van traveling in the same direction.
The driver of the Honda appeared to be a man in his 70s, according to Mattapoisett resident Julie Joseph, who is Walker’s sister and arrived soon after the crash.
She said the man, whose identity is not yet known, had a bloody nose and a scrape on his arm.
The Honda minivan had visible damage to its passenger side bumper, fender and headlight.
The driver side bumper of the Chevrolet appeared to be slightly damaged, though noticeably less so than the Honda.
Walker said she went to help the minivan’s driver following the crash.
First responders briefly redirected traffic to the outer lanes in both directions of Route 6 after the crash.
Joseph said she had been on Route 6, coming from Uncle Jon’s Coffees in Mattapoisett, when traffic stopped. She then saw Walker, her sister, in the Gulf station parking lot.
After being moved from the road to the Gulf station, the damaged Honda was towed after 10:30 a.m.
A Mattapoisett police officer on scene declined to comment. The Mattapoisett Police Department did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
