Department hopes to minimize fires with safety night

Residents of Mattapoisett Village are encouraged to attend the Village Fire Safety Night on Oct. 24 from 5 to 6 p.m. at the Fire Station.

The densely populated area along with the many historic homes can be a tinderbox without proper fire safety.

Town Administrator Mike Gagne said a breeze could help a fire jump from one house to the next and hazardous weather conditions such as a blizzard could slow down firefighters.

“There have been a number of instances where fires have happened and spread from one to another,” Gagne said.

The fire safety program will teach residents how to minimize dangers.
