Dispose gallons of toxic materials during Mattapoisett’s household hazardous waste day

MATTAPOISETT — A day set for disposing of gallons upon gallons of bleach, turpentine, antifreeze and the like is coming for Mattapoisett and Marion residents.

The two towns are sponsoring a “Household Hazardous Waste Day” on Saturday, Nov. 23 from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. at the Mattapoisett Transfer Station at 60 Tinkham Hill Road. It is open only to Mattapoisett and Marion residents.

Materials applicable for the hazardous waste day include cleaning products such as oven cleaners; drain cleaners; wood and metal cleaners and polish; toilet cleaners; tub, tile and shower cleaners; laundry bleach; chemical pool cleaners and pool chemicals.

Appropriate waste also includes automotive products like motor oil, fuel additives, antifreeze and gas/oil mix as well as indoor pesticides such as houseplant insecticides; moth repellents; mouse and rat poisons and baits; flea repellents and shampoos; bug sprays; cockroach sprays and baits and ant sprays and baits.

Workshop/painting supplies such as adhesives and glues; furniture strippers; oil or enamel-based paint; stains and finishes; paint thinners and turpentine; paint strippers and removers; photographic chemicals; fixatives and other solvents and latex paint can also be brought to the hazardous waste day.

The max quantity is 10 gallons or 10 pounds.
