Donald E. Sylvia, 84, of Plymouth died Sunday, June 8 at Rhode Island Hospital in Providence. He was the husband of Ella H. (Philbrick) Sylvia.

Born in New Bedford, he was the son of the late John and Mary (Emery) Sylvia. Mr. Sylvia was employed at Massachusetts Maritime Academy in Buzzards Bay for many years.  He enjoyed his vegetable garden and woodworking.

Mr. Sylvia was a U.S. Army veteran and served in Germany from 1951 to 1953 during the post WWII years.

He is survived by his wife Ella, his sister, Barbara Gonneville of Rochester, his nephews, Robert Gonneville and his wife Margaret of Rochester and their sons, John and James and Charles Gonneville and his wife Beth of Rochester and their daughter, Karen, his cousin, Evelyn Weywell and his sister in-law, Evelyn Campbell.

A funeral service will be held on Thursday, June 12 at the Chapman, Cole & Gleason Funeral Home, 2599 Cranberry Highway (Rt. 28), Wareham at 10 a.m.  Relatives and friends may visit from 9 to 10 a.m. prior to the service.  Interment will be in Sagamore Cemetery, Sagamore.
