Dooner defeats Pacheco in state senate race
Republican candidate Kelly Dooner has defeated Democrat Joe Pacheco in the race for the seat of state senator in the 3rd Bristol and Plymouth District.
Marion voters preferred Pacheco, casting 1,881 votes for him. Dooner received 1,318 votes in Marion.
The seat had been held by Marc Pacheco, no relation to Joe Pacheco, for the last 32 years. Marc Pacheco announced he would not be running for reelection earlier this year.
“Thank you to the 3rd Bristol and Plymouth District,” said Dooner in a Facebook post. “First woman to ever hold this seat. I promise I will give you everything I have and do everything I can to make sure you have the representation you deserve on Beacon Hill.”
Joe Pacheco conceded the race in the morning of Wednesday, Nov. 6, calling Dooner to congratulate her.
“While its not the outcome I had hoped for, I am honored to have had the chance to run and I am proud that the ideas and goals our campaign carried were meaningful to many,” Joe Pacheco said. “Please know how grateful I am to have met so many new friends along the way.”
