The Elizabeth Taber Library hosts an early New Year’s party

Dec 31, 2019

MARION — The normally quiet Elizabeth Taber Library was momentarily more raucous on Dec. 31, as the library’s youngest patrons, their parents and grandparents celebrated the New Year.

The party was intended to give those too young to stay up until midnight a way to celebrate it by counting down to noon.

The party started off quiet, as children from Marion and Mattapoisett slowly trickled in. There were New Year’s hats and tiaras to try on, snacks to enjoy, and coloring pages to color in.

Then, one of the children learned how to work a noisemaker, and suddenly the library was filled with a sound not unlike squawking ducks.

Luckily, the children quieted down enough to watch a New Year’s countdown with a minute left to go until noon. Counting down from 60 was too much for some of the youngsters, so the verbal countdown started at 10 and ended with cheers and noisemaker sounds.

After, children and their family members opened poppers, which contained a joke, a paper crown and a small prize for the children, reading the jokes aloud.

New at the Elizabeth Taber Library in 2020 will be a woodburning kit and two new 3D pens, which will be available as soon as they are processed.
