MARION — On Oct. 17, the town will unveil the new Elizabeth Taber statue in Bicentennial Park with a welcome ceremony and dedication beginning at 11 a.m.

The statue will be presented by Elizabeth Taber Statue Committee Chair Judy Rosbe, with speeches from Board of Selectmen Chair Randy Parker and Erik Durant, the statue’s sculptor.

Taber designed and supervised construction of numerous buildings in Marion, including the Music Hall and the original building for Tabor Academy.

The scuplture was commissioned nearly two years ago. Since then, Durant has been worked on the statue in his New Bedford studio.

The ceremony will go on rain or shine, and mask wearing and social distancing will be enforced. After the unveiling, a groundbreaking will take place for the entrance of the Town House across the street, as well as an opening reception for Durant at the Marion Art Center.
