Fall activities soon begin at Elizabeth Taber Library

MARION — The Elizabeth Taber Library has activities for patrons of all ages scheduled for the fall. 

Cozy Cup Book Club.The Cozy Cup Book Club meets on the second Wednesday of the Month at 11 a.m. Join Sept. 9 for a discussion of “The Antique Hunter's Death on the Red Sea” by C.L. Miller. Coffee and tea are provided. Copies of the book can be checked out at the library circulation desk.

Fiber Arts Club.The Fiber Arts Club meets every Friday at 10:30 a.m. Bring knitting, crocheting, embroidery, cross stitch, or other portable projects to work on at the library. This is an opportunity for crafters to work on their projects in the company of like-minded fiber artists, not a class.

Family Storytime.Starting Sept. 8, family storytime will resume on Tuesday mornings at 10:30 a.m. This storytime program is designed for kids ages 0-5 and their caregivers. The program includes stories, songs, movement activities and rhymes to help develop early literacy skills.

Afternoon Activities.Afternoon Activities also begin Tuesday, Sept. 8. Between 3 to 4 p.m., kids in kindergarten through fourth grade are invited to drop by the library for a new librarian-led activity each week.

Messy Morning.Messy Morning returns on Thursdays at 10:30 a.m. beginning Sept. 10. Kids ages 2-5 and their siblings and caregivers are invited to participate in a different art or sensory activity every week. The library provides aprons, but recommends dressing to get messy.

Lapsit Storytime. Lapsit Storytime will resume Monday, Sept. 14 at 10 a.m. This program is designed for babies ages 0-24 months. It focuses on encouraging positive bonding experiences around literature and supporting parents in engaging their child in early literacy activities. The library will open its doors at 9:50 a.m. for this program.

Nursery Rhyme Time.The library is introducing a new program, Nursery Rhyme Time, for kids ages 3-5. The program begins Sept. 14 at 11 a.m. Each week will focus on a different nursery rhyme through simple, interactive activities. Research shows knowledge of nursery rhymes can be a predictor of reading readiness when a child reaches kindergarten.

Library Society.Tweens in grades 5-8 are invited to the Library Society on Wednesday, Sept. 16 at 3 p.m. This group will learn about library work, brainstorm ways the library can meet the needs of kids in the community and complete service projects. These may include  preparing activities for the library's Halloween party, making library displays and decorations and developing activities for Marion's 175th anniversary.
