ROCHESTER — Community members came out to Rochester's Council on Aging to meet Wally, the Boston Red Sox mascot.
Wally wasn't able to attend the senior center's Sept. 26 block party, but he made an appearancei n town Nov. 7.
A small party with Red Sox coloring pages, a photo booth and food welcomed Wally to town. Attendants munched on popcorn, hot dogs and lemonade while waiting for a chance to meet Wally.
One attendant, Kathy Schea, wore a Red Sox dress gifted to her by the team itself. After a big win in 2007, the team handed out merchandise at the hospice care facility where Schea worked. She said she's had it ever since.
"I love watching the Red Sox, and I love Wally," Schea said. She currently works in end of life care as a doula, and she said she would love a Wally costume to dress up for her patients.
The event also had some furry visitors. Harlow, from the Abington Police Department, visited and said hello to Wally and children. Starr, a Great Dane from Plymouth County Sheriff's Department, visited with her sibling Jersey.
