Fireworks likely July 1, town administrator tells board

Apr 5, 2022

MARION — Save the date of July 1.

Town Administrator James McGrail is optimistic that the town will raise enough money to host fireworks in town on that date, he told the select board at their Tuesday, April 5 meeting.

The Marion Fireworks Committee has been raising money for months to bring back the Independence Day tradition.

The effort has seen “a good couple of weeks,’’ McGrail said, although money is still needed. About $38,000 has been raised of the $65,000 needed.

The committee is planning a 5K road race fund-raiser on Sunday, May 8, with a back-up date of May 15. Select board members approved road closures needed for that day.

With the announcement that Onset has canceled its fireworks this year, the Marion event could prove especially popular, McGrail said.

“People should start planning to celebrate the Fourth of July here,’’ he said.

Donations are still being accepted. Checks can be made out to the Town of Marion and sent to: Marion Fireworks Committee, 2 Spring St., Marion MA 02738.
