Foundation constructed at Habitat for Humanity site

Aug 8, 2015

Volunteers from M.T.S. Concrete and L&S Concrete laid the foundation of the Buzzards Bay Habitat for Humanity project on Route 6 on Friday morning.

Lars Olson, owner of Fine Home Building, arranged for the foundation’s installation through suppliers who donated materials.

The home is the nonprofit’s ninth project on the South Coast and its first Marion build. Buzzards Bay Habitat for Humanity is the local chapter of the global nonprofit that provides affordable housing for low-income families.

“It’s starting to look a lot more like a home and less like a hole in the ground,” said Jack Beck, the project’s Building Committee Chair.

Located at 185 Wareham Road, the project has been in the works for many years. In early June, supporters broke ground at the site after securing the proper permits.

Beck said work will continue on the home this summer and fall. He encouraged anyone interested in volunteering time or materials to contact Habitat for Humanity.

Other companies that donated services include Pontiac Tree of Wareham and G. Lopes Construction. Pontiac Tree cleared trees from the site and G. Lopes demolished a house there in 2012.
