Gateway Youth Hockey Results
The third week of Gateway Youth Hockey saw a dominant performance by its Squirt team, while the Pee Wees and Bantams didn't fair quite as well.
Squirts
Gateway dominated the Sept. 20 game vs. Plymouth Orange from start to finish winning 10-0.
In the first period, Trendyn Medeiros got Gateway on the board with a goal assisted by Matthew Paling. That goal was followed another from Nathan Ribiero. Matthew Paling scored the third goal, which was assisted by Trendyn Medeiros. Matthew Quinlan and Juni Suarez added to the score with the fourth and fifth goals respectively.
Ryker King had two saves in the first period. Jacob Hebbel started the second period with another goal, giving the squirts a six goal lead. That goal waqs assisted by Braden MacDonald. Trendyn Medeiros, Matthew Paling, and Trendyn Medeiros also scored for the Squirts, and King finished strong in net. King's shut out streak alive.
Pee Wees
The Gateway Youth Hockey Pee Wee team lost to Hanover Sunday morning by a score of 3-1. Hanover broke the ice with a goal at the end of the first period, but Gateway tied the game in the second when Zachary Barris scored off of an assist by Ben DeMoranville. Hanover came on strong in the third period with two additional goals to take the game.
Bantams
The Gateway Youth Hockey Bantam team won their third game in a row Saturday, downing the WHK Hawks 4-1. After a scoreless first period, Nick Snow found the back of the net, assisted by Josh Smolinsky.
Smolinsky opened the third period with a goal of his own, assisted by Zack Lovendale. Three minutes later, Lovendale scored a goal assisted by Snow.
Jackson St. Don added an insurance goal with less than a minute remainingafter some hard work in the corner by Noah Demoranville, who produced the opportunity.
Robert Ramsay contributed his usual back-checking effort, while the defense of Coleby Paling, Beth Davis, Matt Youlden, and Jared Westgate played their most physical game of the young season.
Steven Strachan produced a shutout performance in net for his half of the game, and Zachary Pateakos also played well in net.
On Sunday, a depleted roster led to the Bantams suffering as their first loss of the season.
]The North Devils got a goal in each period, as they blanked Gateway by a score of 3-0. The Gateway Bantam squad will hope to bounce back against the undefeated Canton next weekend.
