Gateway Youth Hockey teams go undefeated for the weekend

Five teams, six games and zero losses. That was the weekend tally for Gateway Youth Ice Hockey. For game recaps, see below:

Mites H Team

The Gateway H team won both games of a double header Saturday. In the first game, the Mites defeated the Falmouth Lightning by a score of 15-5.

Gateway was shorthanded only having four skaters and a goalie but came out on top. Goals were scored by Charlie Carroll, Paxton Jones, Jack Langlais and Kevin Place. Nathan Wilson was solid in net.

In the second game, Gateway defeated the number one team Barnstable 11-8. Jones and Langlais each had a hat trick and an assist.

Mites C

The Gateway Mite C team had another comeback tie against the SC Panthers in a game that ended 10-10. Jarrod Frates had four goals to lead the team. The other scorers were Paxton Jones, Ben Hebble Pat Tripp and Brayden Cannon. Charlie Carroll had 45 saves on the night. Gateway played hard to the finish and only have one loss in its last six games.

Squirts

The Gateway Squirts came out a little sluggish Saturday after a week away from the ice but soon found their legs, winning 4-2 against Braintree White. In the first period, Matthew Quinlan found the net on an assist from Matthew Paling. The Squirts scored three goals in the second, courtesy of Quinlan, Braden MacDonald and Juni Suarez, to put the game out of reach.

Pee Wees

The Gateway Pee Wee team beat its rivals, the Canal Sharks, on Sunday morning by a score of 5 - 2.  Scoreless through the first, Gateway put three points on the board in the second.

The Sharks came out strong in the third period, scoring two goals of their own, but Gateway's Jack Martins and RJ Vickery closed the door with two final goals.

Bantams

The Gateway Youth Hockey Bantams defeated the WHK Hawks 7-1 on Saturday night.

Josh Smolinsky scored the only goal of an evenly matched first period, assisted by Tyler Lovendale and Robert Ramsay.

Lovendale would go on to have a hat trick in the second period as Gateway pulled away. Goalie Zachary Pateakos played well, earning his second consecutive shutout in net.
