Girl scouts brave it out in freezing-temperature cookie sale

Feb 9, 2021

Last year on Valentine’s Day, Girl Scout Troop 67047 sold cookies at the Marion General Store under the leadership of Nicole Rickard, who passed away unexpectedly in 2020.

This year looked a little different with an outdoor only sale, where and the troop braved below-freezing temperatures to operate their first contactless drive-thru cookie booth sale at the corner of Wareham Road and Front Street in Marion.

The Girl Scout cookie sale was also the girls’ first in-person get-together in a while, as most of their meetings have been held online due to covid.

At the girls’ last meeting of 2020, the troop made cut and no-sew blankets for animals recovering from surgery.

In memory of her mom on Feb. 2, Nicole’s daughter Shanley — who is the oldest scout and mentor in the little Brownie Girl Scout troop — delivered the blankets to the Chase Farm Veterinary Hospital in Dartmouth where Nicole was a vet.
