Girls soccer playoff run ends

Nov 5, 2013

The Old Rochester Regional High School girl’s soccer team made an immense impact during their 2013 fall season, playing with great skill and motivation on the field, and earned a spot in the state playoffs.

Unfortunately, that season ended when ORR lost to Spellman High School 2-0 on Monday, Nov. 4 during the second round of playoff games.

The loss followed an exciting win against Coyle Cassidy High School that ended the second round of playoff games in a sudden death penalty kick shoot out on Nov. 2.

The girls began preparing for the playoffs on Tuesday, Oct. 29. The team’s confidence received a boost after a win over New Bedford.

“Our game against New Bedford High proved how hard we’ve been working. With states on our mind, we’ve been acknowledging the room for improvement and fixing many errors,” said captain Morgan Dasilva.

The team appeared in the tournament last year.

“This team has some great ability, and together plays with a lot of skill and heart. They are ready to go, and they are excited,” said Coach Jeff Lombard.

The team worked hard all season to improve on mistakes, short passes and shots on goal in order to compete well.

For captain Emily Beaulieu, a senior, this marked her last season playing at ORR.

“We had a lot of strong points throughout the season. Although we had a bit of a downfall, I wouldn’t change a thing. I can’t be more proud of my team for making states this year.”
