Gladiator hockey continues to dominate

The Gateway Gladiator hockey teams continue to see success with the Pee Wees, Bantams and Midgets combining for a record of 3-1-1 last week.

The Pee Wees tied Norwood last week 3-3. Goals came from Matthew Paling, Nate Riberio, Ty Rebeiro. The team also played Hanover, and skated away with a 4-0 win. Thomas Leger scored the first goal, Ty Rebeiro scored twice and Paling scored as well. Goaltender Ryker King secured the shutout.

The Bantams won the program’s first ever State Tournament Playdown game. The team traveled to South Dennis and played the Yarmouth-Dennis Dolphins, who they beat 8-3. Tyler Lovendale scored twice, but the Dolphins would tie it up by the end of the first period. Matt Cadieux broke the tie but again, the Dolphins would tie it. The Gladiators would break the tie and run away with the game in the third, with Lovendale completing his hat trick plus a fourth goal and Quirino doCanto scoring a hat trick himself. Goaltender Alex DeMarco made 33 saves.

The Bantams also beat Hanover 5-0 over the weekend. Lovendale and Luke Mello both scored twice and doCanto added a fifth goal.

The Midgets lost 4-0 to the Brockton Cyclones on Sunday morning. The team struggled to find offense but will get its chance at a rematch today.
