Gladiator Squirts, Pee Wees winning in playoffs
The Gladiator Squirts opened the playoffs with a loss to the Whitman-Hanson-Kingston Hawks 5-1 on March 12. The teams ended the first period scoreless, but the Hawks jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the second period. The offense didn’t stop coming in the third, when the team extended its lead to 5-0. Brayden Cannon scored the Gladiator’s lone goal.
However, on March 18 the Gladiators were back in offensive form, scoring 9 goals to beat Canton 9-1 in their second playoff game. Patrick Duggan, Mike Brown and Brayden Hathon all scored once, Tommy Clavell scored three times and Cannon scored twice.
The next day the Squirts improved their playoff record to 2-1 by beating Walpole Express 4-1. Clavell scored twice, Duggan scored once and Liz Kilpatrick scored on a penalty shot. Goaltender Ryan Killion played a strong game, stopping 23 of 24 shots.
The Pee Wees are also playing in the playoffs. The team faced off against the South Coast Stars on March 18 in its second week of Yankee Conference playoff action. The Gladiators opened up the game with five unanswered goals in the first period. Sean Polluck and Matthew Paling each scored once and Ty Rebeiro scored a hat trick. Rebeiro added his fourth goal of the game in the third period, making the final score 6-0. Goaltender Ryker King make a number of key saves to secure the shut out. The team plays again March 25 at Pembroke.
