Golfers swing away to help Troop 31
LAKEVILLE — Fore! Friends and families of Rochester Troop 31 took the fairways of Poquoy Brook Golf Club in Lakeville for a fundraising tournament on Thursday, Aug. 22.
Forty golfers competed in teams of four to help out the scouts.
Scott Orlowski, father of a member of Troop 31, helped put the morning of drives and putts together.
“We wanted to put something fun on and help the kids,” said Orlowski, who said this is the second year of the tournament.
Orlowski said that organizing wasn’t as efficient as he had hoped, but noted that part of being a boy scout is overcoming obstacles.
Scouts were scattered across the course, helping out at different holes.
At the 160-yard 3rd hole, Joshua Van Inwegen and Carlton Veeder, both members of Troop 31, watched as golfers tried to land their tee shot on the green. Those who did were entered into a raffle.
“It’s pretty great to see,” said Van Inwegen of the turnout. “Great that people can help fundraise while having fun.”
It would have been hard to hand pick a better day for a golf tournament, as temperatures settled around 75 degrees and clouds above were few and far between.
Chris Hill, course director at Poquoy Brook, said “it’s always good to host something that can raise money for a good organization.”
