Goose saga continues in Rochester with arrival of snow geese

Mar 17, 2020

ROCHESTER — The fields alongside Vaughan Hill Road in Rochester have been hotbed for geese species this winter, and the story continues as four snow geese arrived in the field on the weekend of March 13.

Carol Molander of the Nasketucket bird club said that the geese were feeding alongside the many Canadian geese, two barnacle geese and the pink-footed goose that were recently spotted in the same location.

The snow geese are the white form of the snow goose. The birds are all white with black wingtips, a pink bill and legs, and immature birds have a dusky smudging.

The snow goose seen previously at the Vaughan Hill Road fields was a blue goose, or a dark-form goose, with a blackish body and white face.

This year has been a banner year for the number of species spotted in Rochester. A greater white-fronted goose was also observed for several weeks.
