Grant option explored in Marion
Having a robust, easy to search database of local property information isn’t a reality - yet. On Tuesday, Pamela Marean notified Selectmen about a grant that, if awarded, would net $100,000 or more for a Geographic Information System. The system, once developed, would allow users to research a property’s zoning status and geographic, economic, and cultural data.
Marean, a grant writer for the town, said the state’s Community Innovation Challenge Grant Program might be interested in funding the project. The grant is designed to foster programs that lower municipal costs and improve services.
Town Administrator Paul Dawson said the idea may be hard to implement without a staff member familiar with the program. He said the idea had merit. The deadline to apply for the grant is Oct. 29. Marean will meet with SRPEDD officials next week to learn more. “I hate to see a good grant go by without a decent proposal,” she said.
