Habitat for Humanity house build nearing Christmas completion

Nov 2, 2020

MATTAPOISETT — A project that was once paused by covid delays, the Buzzard’s Bay Area’s Habitat for Humanity home on Route 6 in Mattapoisett is “chugging along” according to Executive Director Christine Lacourse.

The most recent update to the house is the installation of siding. Care Free Homes of Fairhaven donated time and labor to make that happen.

“The project is going great,” Lacourse said.

Plumbing is being finished in the home, and electrical work is starting this week.

Construction was started on the three-bedroom home in the end of December 2019, and Lacourse hopes the residents can move in by Christmas.

“Fingers crossed that everyone’s schedules align,” Lacourse said, adding that it’s because the project relies on the work of subcontractors who donate their time.

After pausing work in mid-March due to coronavirus restrictions, work resumed on the single-family home at the end of May.

The plot of land was donated by the Nicolosi family, and the house will go to a single mother with two daughters who was chosen by Habitat for Humanity when the project began.

In two weeks, the project will be in need of volunteer helpers to work on the home. Visit buzzardsbayhabitat.org/volunteer.html to sign up for a shift.

Any food donations are also much appreciated. Site volunteers have coffee and lunch breaks, so donors can make or buy coffee, snacks, lunch items or water and coordinate with Lacourse on when to drop items off at the site.

To avoid contact, gift cards to local restaurants can be sent to P.O. box 1584, Mattapoisett, MA 02739.
