Harris receives academic excellence award

Nov 14, 2014

Old Rochester Regional Superintendent Doug White presented high school senior Andrea Harris with the Superintendent Certificate of Academic Excellence at the Wednesday night School Committee meeting.

To qualify for the award, a part of the Massachusetts Association of School Superintendents, a student's three-year cumulative grade point average is considered, and they must be in the top five percent of their class. A superintendent may choose any student who meets the criteria.

Harris, who ranks second in her class, has been active in a number of extracurricular activities and received other honors during her time at ORR. She received awards in math and science from the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, has volunteered for more than 200 hours of community service in the past two years and is a captain of the track team.

The certificate will also be announced during the school's awards ceremony in the spring.
