Help make Marion even greater — run for office

To the Editor: 

Marion is a charming town because caring, dedicated residents have stepped up to serve on boards, committees, and commissions.

Marion elections are coming up on Friday, May 17, and there are numerous positions that need to be filled.

Citizens should consider running for one seat on the Board of Selectmen for three years, one yearlong term as Moderator, one three year term on the Board of Assessors, one three-year term on the Board of Health, one of two three-year terms on the Planning Board, one three-year term as Tree Warden, one three-year term on the Marion School Committee, one three-year term on the Old Rochester Regional School Committee, or one of two three year terms on the Marion Open Space/Acquisitions Committee.

Election papers are now available at the Town Clerk’s office, and they must be returned by March 25th at 5 p.m. Nomination papers will be due back in the Town Clerk’s office at 5 p.m. on March 25. 

Candidates’ Night will be held at 7 p.m. on Thursday, May 2nd in the Music Hall. Volunteer groups and committees also offer numerous possibilities to give back and to become an active member of the community.

May 13 marks the date for Annual Town Meeting at Sippican School at 6:45 p.m. Four days later, on May 17 Town Elections will be held from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. at the Benjamin D. Cushing Community Center.
