Historic District on the Town Meeting agenda after vote
MARION — The proposed Marion historic district and accompanying bylaw will go forward following a survey presented at the Marion Village Historic District Study Committee Wednesday, March 11.
The survey was conducted at the request of several village property owners at the Study
Committee’s public meetings in January and February. The intent was to gauge the level of interest in creating a historic district.
There are a total of 201 properties in the proposed district. With a total of 101 votes from
within the proposed district, the results were 50 in favor, 45 against and six maybe.
Out of district ballots were received from 48 people, with 42 in favor and six against.
The Study Committee submitted the survey results to the Marion Select Board with a request to
move forward, placing the bylaw on the agenda for Town Meeting. In order to be adopted, the bylaw would require a 2/3 majority vote at Town Meeting Monday, May 12.
