Hockey team still trying for final playoff points

Feb 17, 2019

As the Old Rochester Regional Varsity Hockey team wraps up the season, Coach Chuck Jancaterino has one main goal: for the team to score three points. However, at its Feb. 17 game the team moved no closer to completing that goal, as it lost to Plymouth South 0-3.

The final three points will earn Old Rochester a spot in the playoffs.

Old Rochester started off with strong defense, and both teams remained scoreless first period. Old Rochester player Jack Barrows was injured in the first period.

South Plymouth scored its first goal with the second period at 6:37, and scored again before the end of the period.

ORR lost another player to an injury, as the game progressed and swapped out its goalie when the starting goalie, Jake DeMoranville, had a skate problem.

Plymouth scored once more with the replacement goalie.

The team will play once more against South Plymouth and twice against North Plymouth.

Though the Plymouth teams are Division II teams, and Old Rochester a Division III Team, Jacaterino hopes to be able to eke out the three points the team needs to earn a playoff spot.

“It’s definitely a challenge. But it’s been a great turnaround. At one point we were 3-7-0, so you have to give us credit for perseverance,” Jacaterino said.

Old Rochester will face off against Plymouth South again on Feb. 20 at 5:30 at the Armstrong Arena in Plymouth.
