There are a number of holiday-related events scattered throughout Marion and Mattapoisett in December. If you are short on holiday events, consider joining in on the festivities.

Saturday, Dec 1.

Shop Til You Drop

The First Congregational Church of Rochester is offering parents the chance to do some holiday shopping without having to worry about their children. From 5 to 9 p.m. the church will provide dinner and babysitters to help the children make cookies and perform other holiday activities. Plumb Library Holiday Fair

While the main attraction of the holiday fair for kids may be Santa, adults may also find some holiday deals at the fair’s silent auction or at the Rochester Historical Society’s table. A bake sale and the Rochester Memorial School Chorus and the brownies will also add to the holiday cheer with some tunes. The fair will start at 10 a.m. and last until 2 p.m. with Santa making an appearance from 10:30 to noon.

Sunday, Dec. 2

Making Holiday Scents

There’s something about certain scents that just makes you think of the holiday, and now the Mattpoisett Library is offering patrons the chance to give those evocative scents as gifts. Katherine Anne Young, a certified holistic aromatherapist, will be on hand to help patrons make aromatherapy gifts with cinnamon, clove, citrus and more. The event will be held at from 2 to 3:30 and requires registration at the library

Sippican Choral Society Concert

Later in the day, at 4 p.m. the Sippican Choral Society will tackle the sounds of the holiday at their winter concert at Wickenden Chapel in Marion. They will perform Handel’s Messiah, and other holiday classics, then invite the audience to sing along with them for a few more holiday tunes.

Saturday, Dec. 8

Mattapoisett Holiday Arts and Crafts Fair

Saturday Dec. 8 is a hopping day for holiday events in the tri-town. From 1 to 4 p.m. at the Mattapoisett Historical Society pick up some locally made holiday gifts from among notecards, soaps, woolens, photographs, jewelry, wrought iron and other items.

Marion Luncheon and Cookie Walk

The First Congregational Church invites you over for luncheon in their community center at 11:30 a.m., and to take a sweet stroll afterwards. The church will serve chicken salad, cranberry compote, breads, beverages and cheesecake. If that doesn’t satisfy your sweet tooth, take a stroll down the cookie walk and fill a box with a dozen cookies for $10.

Marion House Tour

If you’d like to do something a little more home-y, buy some tickets for the Holiday House Tour and tour homes in Marion from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. A tea will be included in the ticket price. Participants should meet at the Coldwell Banker at the start of the tour for passes

A Holiday stroll in the park

The 13th annual Holiday in the Park and stroll in Mattapoisett kicks of this year at the Mattapoisett Congregational Church from 9:00 a.m. to noon.All of the fun and festivities conclude at Shipyard Park from 3:00 pm to 5:00 pm. Santa and Mrs. Claus with be traveling through town by fire truck.

Holiday Boutique

If you’re jealous of all those decorations on the tour and feeling the need to decorate your own home, stop by the Music Hall from 9 a.m. to noon for the Marion Garden Group’s holiday boutique, where they will be selling a wide variety of greens.

Sunday, Dec. 9

Marion Holiday Stroll

The Marion festivities this year will take place from 3 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. 

Wednesday, Dec. 10

Make a Candy Lighthouse

The Mattapoisett Library wants to infuse the scenic Ned’s Point with some extra holiday cheer in the minds of children by allowing them to build a candy lighthouse starting at 3:30.

Thursday Dec. 14

Inside the Pages of “The Nutcracker”

The Mattapoisett library will host its second holiday event for children at 3:30, bringing in dance instructor Kay Alden to let workshop participants dance to “The Nutcracker” instead of just watching.

Friday, Dec. 15

The Occasion Singers Holiday Concert

Midway through the month the First Congregational Church of Marion will host another holiday event, this time a holiday concert by the Occasion Singers at 7 p.m. Guests must purchase tickets for the concert, but tickets will include appetizers, wine, and the chance to sing along with the group.

Saturday Dec. 16

Lessons & Carols

The next night will feature another 7 p.m. concert, this one from the Tabor Academy Choristers at Wickenden Chapel.

Wednesday, Dec. 19

Holiday Storytime with Grandparents

The Mattapoisett Library will host its final Holiday event mid week at 10:30 a.m. to let children listen to holiday stories with their parents or grandparents.
