May 13, 2022

MARION  — The Marion Firefighters Association is hosting its first horseshoe tournament from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday, May 22 at Silvershell Beach Recreational Field, 1 Front St., Marion.

The event is open to everyone, horseshoe experience or participation is not required. There will also be a craft beer garden and entertainment by a classic cover rock band, US, which is short for “Us Old Guys.’’

Pre-registration fee is $40 per two-person team, $20 per single.

Registration the day of the event is $50 per two-person team, $25 per single. Singles will be paired with other single players via a lottery.

Awards will be presented to winners.

All proceeds benefit the Marion Firefighters Association.

The association is a nonprofit organization that serves to provide financial assistance and support to the members, past and present, of Marion’s on-call Fire Department  and their families who are facing challenges. The association also provides community charitable support such as scholarships  to the community.

The association also donates firefighting and other life-saving equipment to the department that isn’t specifically provided for in the Fire Department’s operating fiscal budget, including professional development opportunities to the firefighters to obtain advanced certifications.
