Icy conditions lead to two car accidents on I-195

Nov 21, 2019

MARION — Two motor vehicle accidents took place on Interstate 195 in Marion on the morning of Thursday, Nov. 21, and one person was transported to Tobey Hospital as a result.

Fire Chief Brian Jackvony said that the Fire Department responded to the first incident at around 5:40 a.m. A single car crashed due to “icy conditions” on I-195 eastbound near the 36 mile marker, and the Wareham Town line.

The driver was transported to Tobey Hospital. Their condition is unknown at this time.

Jackvony said that the Fire Department then responded to a rolled over pickup truck, also on I-195 in Marion at 6:24 a.m. Three people were inside the truck at the time of the accident, and they all refused medical treatment.

Traffic was briefly limited to one lane near the scene of both accidents, but has since been opened up to two lanes.

Jackvony said that the Massachusetts Department of Transportation has started salting the road on I-195, but that drivers should use caution, especially when approaching bridges.

He added that anytime temperatures drop below freezing, while there is moisture in the air, similar conditions are likely to occur.
