MATTAPOISETT — An internationally recognized expert on democracy will speak at a forum held by the Mattapoisett Democratic Town Committee.

The speaker forum featuring Danielle Allen — the James Bryant Conant University Professor at Harvard University — will be Sunday, April 28 from 1:30 to 3 p.m. in the downstairs meeting room of the Mattapoisett Free Public Library.

Allen is the founder and president of Partners In Democracy. In her role as board chair for Partners In Democracy, Allen advocates for democracy reform and drives progress towards a new social contract.

She is also an experienced nonprofit leader, democracy advocate, tech ethicist and a distinguished author.

Her many books include the widely acclaimed “Our Declaration: a reading of the Declaration of Independence in defense of equality,” “Cuz: The Life and Times of Michael A.,” and “Justice by Means of Democracy.”

During the height of COVID-19 in 2020, Allen’s leadership in rallying coalitions and building solutions resulted in the country’s first-ever “Roadmap to Pandemic Resilience.” Allen also made history as the first Black woman ever to run for statewide office in Massachusetts, according to a Mattapoisett Democratic Town Committee press release.
