ROCHESTER- Jack M. Pearsull of Rochester, MA died on January 25, 2025. Born in New York City, (Harlem), NY in 1935 to Marcellus and Jeannette Pearsull. His family and friends knew him as Billy.

He attended and graduated from Samuel Gompers High School, in the Bronx, NY.

Jack worked in the public sector his entire professional life. He began his career as a U.S. postal clerk, working nights while attending high school. He continued to work in the postal service after graduation. In 1954, Jack married his sweetheart Mary Urquhart and started a family.

In 1957, he joined the New York City Police Department as a patrolman and retired in 1978 as a detective with twenty-one years of service and received several commendations as a detective.

He moved his family to Rochester and opened a security company in Providence, RI from 1978 to 1982.
In 1982, Jack was the first Black Police Chief in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. He served in the office until 1984 in the town of Rochester, MA. The town refused to renew his contract because of politics.

Jack continued in public service as a commander of security forces in Boston, MA.

In 1987 Jack obtained a position with the Department of Mental Health as a Supervisor of Investigations in criminal matters. He was promoted in 1990 to Deputy Director of Facilities Operations at Medfield State Hospital and Quincy Mental Health Center. Jack retired from state service in March of 2002.

Jack was a Life Member of Massachusetts Chiefs of Police and New York Detective Endowment Association.

He lost the love of his life, Mary Pearsull on March, 30, 2022.

He is survived by his son Jack M Pearsull Jr. of Bridgewater his daughters Timpella Pearsull Flagg of Long Island, NY, and Trinette M. Pearsull Osborne of New Bedford, daughter-in-law Brenda Pearsull of Bridgewater, son-in-law Greg Flagg of Long Island, son-in-law Robert Osborne of New Bedford, and sister-in-law Shawn Urquhart of Albany, GA. Jack is also survived by grandchildren Romara Pearsull, Gregory Flagg and Michael Flagg, great-grandchildren Za’niya and Marcellus Flagg. He was the godfather to Dwayne Douglas of N.Y., Nicole Cabral of Wareham, and Kelly Cheeping of Las Vegas, NV. He had two close cousins, Linda Lowe of New Jersey and Kenyetta Pichardo of Florida and many other relatives and friends.

Visitation will be from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm on Wednesday, February 5 at Chapman Funerals & Cremations- 2599 Cranberry Hwy, Wareham. A funeral service for Jack will be held on Thursday, February 6 at 10:00 am from the funeral home; burial to follow at Union Cemetery in Rochester, MA.
