James B. Barron, 81, of Marion died February 26 at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston.

He was the beloved husband of Mary R. "Maisie" (Naclerio) Barron.

Born in Boston, the son of the late Thomas M. and Mary M. (Murphy) Barron, he lived in Braintree and Ellisville before moving to Marion in 2000.

Mr. Barron was a communicant of St. Rita's Church in Marion and St. Anthony's Church in Mattapoisett. He was a lector and altar server at St. Rita's Church. He was awarded the Marian Medal by the Diocese of Fall River, for service to his parish.

He was formerly employed in the banking industry for many years retiring as president and chief executive officer of Shawmut Bank of Southeastern Massachusetts. He was also employed by Bank of New England as vice president where he was in charge of International Banking, Middleborough Trust Company, and Commerce Bank and Trust. Mr. Barron was a director of three nationally traded mutual funds.

Mr. Barron was a graduate of Boston College High School, class of 1948, Boston College B.S. Cum Laude, class of 1959. He was a proud Golden Eagle and "Double Eagle." He was a member of the Boston College Alumni Association. He attended Christ Church College, Oxford, England. He was a member of the Town of Marion Finance Committee, Sippican Rod and Gun Club, and the Piney Point Beach Club. He was past president of the Southeastern Massachusetts University Foundation, the Wamsutta Club, and the New Bedford Chamber of Commerce, where he was elected to the New Bedford Business Hall of Fame. He was an arbitrator and member of the American Arbitration Association. He served as a board member for the Commonwealth Figure Skating Club and North Braintree Little League.

He enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren, being on the water, travel, music, education, being a recreational pilot and he was fluent in many languages.

Mr. Barron served in U.S. Army intelligence during the Korean War.

Survivors include his devoted wife; 3 sons, James B. Barron, Jr. and his wife Anamaria of Boston, Michael F. Barron and his wife Colleen, of Braintree and Stephen R. Barron and his wife Merike of Marion; 3 daughters, Kelly Barron Kelleher and her husband Timothy, and Rachel Barron Lynch and her husband Stephen, both of Marion and Aimee Barron Driscoll and her husband Dennis of Milton; 2 brothers, Thomas M. Barron, Esq. of Quincy and John Barron of Billerica; 3 sisters, Arlene Barron Champoux, Esq. of Winchester, Mary Barron Staffier of Billerica and Joan Barron Connolly of Norwell; 13 grandchildren, Aimee, Timothy and Chloe Kelleher, all of Marion, Brendan, Matthew and Patrick Barron, all of Boston, Julia and Emily Barron, both of Braintree, Sophie Lynch of Marion and Madelyn, Owen, William and Isabelle Driscoll, all of Milton; and many nieces and nephews.

His Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Wednesday at 11 a.m. in St. Anthony's Church, 22 Barstow Street, Mattapoisett. Burial will follow in Old Landing Cemetery, Marion. Visiting hours Tuesday from 3-8 p.m. in the Saunders-Dwyer Mattapoisett Home For Funerals, 50 County Road (Route 6), Mattapoisett.
